Pantone Color of the Year 2015: Marsala

In honor of the newly announced Pantone Color of the Year, I’ve uploaded a version of my 2015 calendar using this beautiful red-brown hue.  Sophisticated, natural, and earthy…and sure to make appearance in one of my lines this year!

“This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.” – Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute

Giving Tuesday

Tomorrow, December 2nd, is Giving Tuesday, and I plan on donating to Homeward Trails Animal Rescue as part of a national fundraiser.  They can win matching funds and other bonuses to help in their animal rescue activities based on the number of unique donors they have on that day.  As many of you know, I have volunteered with HT for a long time and support them annually with donations of my jewelry.  It’s a cause near and dear to my heart as my puppy and 2 cats are all rescues – HT rescues and adopts an average of 1,700 homeless cats and dogs annually.  Each single dollar we raise on this day helps to save the life of a homeless dog or cat.  I will be donating $10 myself and challenge each of you to donate $10.  Please, please put these date on your calendar and plan to donate and share this information with others.  I will be posting the link tomorrow for donations…a gift as little as $10 will make the huge difference.  The fundraiser is for tomorrow only.  Let’s save some animals!

THANK YOU!!

Life is Always Changing

Autumn is an amazing reminder of life and how it changes daily.  We all have different perspectives, dreams, and goals.  What’s your view today?  “Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them – that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” – Lao Tzu

Forbidden City: Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum, Beijing

One of my favorite Chinese proverbs is, “When drinking the water, remember the source.”  As a daughter of Chinese immigrants, I find myself connected to both my Chinese heritage and my western upbringing.  This connection carries itself over to my artwork – I love taking traditional Chinese motifs and presenting them in a modern and western aesthetic.  Think Ming Tsai’s “East Meets West” show (which I absolutely love still to this day).  My artwork is a representation of me – a fusion of east and west.

I made a day trip to Richmond recently – the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) has a special exhibit right now called Forbidden City: Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum, Beijing.  The exhibit will be there through January 11, 2015 and I highly recommend it!  There were some amazing and inspiring pieces of work on display.  General admission to the museum is free and the tickets to the special exhibit are $20 each for adults, $16 for seniors, and $10 for youth or individuals with student IDs.
